Does God Hate Women? & a Directory of Divine Misogyny

Good book. Through my own readings and research as well, it is pretty easy to see how religion and culture play a vital role in the oppression of women. I have also seen (inc. first hand) how apologists for religion and culture (inc. multiculturalist/culturist advocates) only compound the problem and fuel it directly or indirectly. Progressive equal rights and contempt go hand in hand, and do not let the apologists, the (religious) addled, the guardians/idealists and politicians tell you otherwise.

For those cowards living in countries with oppressive, fascist, theocratic, totalitarian and autocratic regimes... don't pretend to be something you are not ok!

A good review can be found here.

Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (film)

The movie opens on 8 July, 2009 (apologies for the earlier error) in Australia. I'm going for the morning 12pm show, so check back in the early evening on the same day for a full review - will update this same post.

Hope the movie is as dark (or darker) than the Order of the Phoenix, gets the Voldemort angle moving swiftly and has less fillers/deviations, has "much" more of the great fighting between wizards/witches that we saw in the last (of course we need more violence), more advanced magic, great epic scenes/battles, character/story development (more advanced stuff here as well), good-great acting and casting (always has been a strength of the film series), great effects used rightly and not for mere "dazzle" effect, etc.

I'm confident they will hit some of those buttons. Whether they hit them all, we will know shortly. I just hope they don't go back to the good ol' escapism days/films of Harry Potter 1 & 2. Prisoner of Azkaban was a good movie though - gothic, creative, dark, humorous/eccentric and stylish.

Interracial Marriages & Dating in Victoria, Australia?

Tried checking around the net for some statistics. There was nothing specific that I could find. Perhaps because no research in this area has been done?

Let me first clarify that I think the mix in Melbourne and Victoria is generally quite different compared to other parts of Australia. I'm interested in the trends, patterns, statistics, stereotypes, practices, beliefs/perceptions, media effects, educational system factors, socio-political issues/barriers, cultural &/or religious issues/barriers, laws/governmental influences, communication issues, problems/opportunities, etc.

Of course, I have already heard quite a bit about the 'Asian (woman/girls) fetish by white guys' concept here. Or maybe it is really the other way around, with the Asian girls seducing the white guys and/or open to their advances? For those whom have not spent much time here, the term Asian does not apply to East Indians.

I have already heard my share and range of opinions and beliefs about this specific topic, from many friends and family members here. Curious as to what you may think, or if you know of any study that has or is being conducted here?

Coming from an Indian background, I was also curious about interracial marriages and dating patterns and statistics in Victoria, especially the % difference among Indian men and women. Always heard people here saying that far more Indian women marry and date (and are willing to marry/date) white man, compared to Indian men marrying or dating white women (& vice versa?). What do you think?
